A Stonehill Winter...

Haha, well this is my first time in a long time doing a video. So, once again it was sort of awkward. But, I'll get comfortable again soon- just had to get through this first one.

So yea, hope you enjoyed the quick tour. I haven't really shown too much of the Southern Part of campus, I'll have to make a trip down there one of these days. Have a wonderful week and I'll see you on Friday for a quick blog on how the weeks gone!

GOOD LUCK WITH COLLEGE APPLICATIONS & SATs/ACTs!

In a Rush!

Quick Change of Schedule for this Week:
Tuesday (Today): Written Blog

I have a lot of errands that I have to run, and I have class in about 25 minutes- so I'll have to take out the Video Blog this week. But only for this week, then it'll go back to regular.

This past weekend we had the Special Olympics! It was a ton of fun and I really enjoyed being able to volunteer at this event. There were over 500 special Olympic athletes that attended this event, held in the Sports Complex. There was a series of basketball games played, as well as an awards ceremony. We had a number of football athletes, as well as other athletic teams volunteering at this event. We took pictures with the Special Olympic Participants and made many friends.

Athletes waiting for the games to begin.

The Stonehill Dance Team performing before the games began.

Stonehill Football Players watching the Tournament

Stonehill Cheerleaders encouraging a younger cheerleader!

Speaking of making friends! This was the coolest kid I've ever met. His name is Earl, and he ended up finding me on Facebook. He was an incredible athlete, and was very suave with the ladies.

Then there was this other athlete that was very energetic and enthusiastic. He ended up getting the entire Dance Team to come up and cheer for him when he got his Gold Pin Award. We have some cuties on that Dance Team too- Kid's got swag.

I watched the Superbowl- obviously. So many people told me that the Colts were going to win... and still I walked around with my Reggie Bush #25 Jersey. Did you know Drew Brees used to play for the Chargers? Yup! It was exciting watching that team throughout the season- and a nice finish to their Cinderella Story. WHO DAT?!

Anyways, I'm going to be late for my Business Law class. I'm getting a haircut after class today! My hair has gotten to ridiculous lengths... well to me at least. It makes a world of difference when I get it cut. Look how long it is!

So yea, next time you see me, I'll have most of that cut off haha. Ok, I gotta run to class now- peace!

Cleaned my Room!

So another week spent at the Hill.

Still haven't had any tests, which I'm excited about. But- I have 3 tests coming up next week, so I'll be pretty busy studying. I did however, have time to clean my room this week. Usually my roommate and I keep it clean. But we had a few people in our room over the weekend, and it had gotten pretty dirty.

So I decided I'd show you guys my room, and let you see what dorm life "can be" like at Stonehill. I say "can be" because everyone has their own setup. You kind of have to be creative... and I have a wonderful imagination! I only have pictures of my side of the room, I didn't ask my roommate Billy Cummings if I could put his up on the world wide web... So without further ado... I present to you... Boland 223.

This is my closet! Now, to be honest, it's kind of small. But then again- I came across the country and brought almost everything. I hate packing- I always over pack. Everything is a "necessity" to me haha. But you can make up for space by having plastic containers, such as the one I have on the bottom of the closet there.

And yes, having your own rolls of Charmin should be a necessity for every collegiate student.

This is my workspace. I primarily use my Macbook Pro, but as a Business Major they like you to have an HP- so I also have the school's HP computer that comes with all the programs you'll be using already installed. A printer is nice to have, but not necessary. The school allows you to print for free, but it's nice being able to stay in your room rather than go to the Library or Stanger Hall.

That Alarm Clock is a LIFE SAVER. As an athlete, I have to workout Monday, Wednesday & Friday @ 6:45AM to lift with the team. On Tuesday and Thursday I have to run with the team @ 8:00AM. So... without that clock I would be doing extra curricular activities for being tardy. My roommate hates it though... I'm not a morning person, so I have that clock at maximum volume. So he unfortunately gets to wake up as well.

Oh, and a fridge for food :)

My roommate and I decided to bunk our beds to give ourselves more space in the room. I have powder blue sheets and pillows. My friends give me a lot of... Well they like to give me a hard time haha. While it may not be the most masculine of colors, I'm a comfort guy. And sleeping in that bed is heaven. You kind of have to lay in it before commenting. Besides, I love the San Diego Chargers- and football fans know they wear their throwback powder blue jersey's. So there, I just found another excuse for the weird choice of color haha.

This is our couch! It's a futon couch, and it folds out into a bed. Haha, I've slept on that thing so many times... fun memories. And behind it, is the California State Flag. Obviously, I'm from San Diego... and I love California. Kind of hard not to when you spend the first 19 years of your life there. Another thing about that flag though, is that it acts as a screen when I'm in bed. It's nice when my roommate is up doing homework and I want to get to bed.

And finally, the TV. I'd recommend having one, because it's a nice way to socialize with friends in the room. Granted, you don't need to have a 42'' Plasma Samsung- but it's fun. I'll probably have friends over to watch the Superbowl this weekend. GO SAINTS! I also love Air Force 1 Shoes, it's the only shoe I wear. Blu Ray Player, XBOX 360, Modern Warfare 2, and Madden/NCAA Football... what more can you ask for?

So... that's my room! Hope you enjoyed the quick tour. I have to head off to Big Brother, so I gotta bounce. This is the cleanest it will ever look haha, which is why I took time to take those pictures. Because it'll probably get messy in a few days.

Have a Wonderful Weekend!

PS- still trying to work on getting that video footage of home. I think it may be a lost cause :( But I'm not giving up hope on it! I may just have to take more footage next time I'm home.

San Diego

So... I'm not very tech savvy, and for some reason the videos
I took during break don't want to switch over to iMovie.
I think I downloaded them onto my computer first, instead
of straight to iMovie. I'll try to work on it, but for now I
apologize. I did take a few still pictures while in
San Diego, so I put together a quick little video of those.
But I do apologize, it didn't come out like I wanted. I'll still try
to figure it out, I'll let you know the status on Friday.

This Week...

Hey Skyhawks!

So, just a quick schedule reminder from my last post.
Tuesdays: Video Blog
Fridays: Short Written Blog

So I just got back to campus. On Fridays I'll be going to South Middle School and working with the Big Brother Big Sister program through the Old Colony YMCA. I met my little today, we hung out and made a poster. His name is Mark Anthony Barros, pretty chill kid. I'm doubling up with Joey Santabarbara, a baseball player here at Stonehill. I'll go into more detail on this next week.

So yeah, class was fun this week. I'm really excited about my classes. The majority of them are business orientated, and most of them involve group work. I'm not a big fan of classes that you sit and take notes on an hour long lecture. These classes are more student run, where we discuss amongst ourselves the concepts learned from the homework.

It's cold, and the wind is ridiculous. Woke up at 6:00AM this morning to lift with the football team at 6:45AM. Season's over and we're already in the mix of things.

Sorry, I know this was kind of short and jumped all around the place. I'll start getting pictures in these- working myself back into this. Anyways, check back on Tuesday for my video of San Diego!

Have a Wonderful Weekend!

Coming Soon

Hey Skyhawks,

So I'd like to give my sincerest apologies for not keeping up with my blogging responsibilities. I've never been a advocate of excuses, and so I'll take the fault here.

But, I was sick for the past two months. The last month of school I spent laying in bed. I'm not the type of guy that is absent; I'm usually that perfect attendance kid that sits in the front row of class. But those last few weeks were brutal.

Worst part about it was the fact that I was sick during break. The last week of break I actually started to feel better and was able to get out of the house and experience my beautiful Southern California weather. I have some photos of break, and I took some video footage of San Diego as I was driving. I'll have to put that video together and post it up for my next blog.

But I'm back, I've been at school for a week now. And of course, I'm starting to get sick again. I'm not deathly like before, but I have a slight cold. I think it's the change of weather. I was fine until I went back home for Thanksgiving Break for a few days, experienced that lovely warm 75 degree weather, and then flew back to Massachusetts and hit below 30. The constant flying and change of weather hasn't been kind to me. But, I'm at Stonehill for the rest of the semester- so hopefully I can adjust and put this behind me.

Finals Week was hectic. I only had one in-class Final Test, but I was blessed with three 15-page Final Papers. Of course, like most college students... we procrastinate. So I ended up writing 45 pages, in two days. I did not sleep, and I actually drove to a professors house to drop off my final paper. 45 pages in two days... that is phenomenal. Let me pat myself on the back for that one. But of course, procrastination has it's downsides. I didn't do as well as I had hoped this past semester. I ended up with a 3.25GPA;

A-
B+
B
B

Not too horrible, but with my track record, I should have done better. I'll make sure to show that this semester- starting with not procrastinating. It's only the 2nd week so I don't have too much to pride myself with- but I'm actually ahead a few days in each of my classes. Let's see if I can keep it up :)

Anyways, like I said I'll be making a Video Blog next week. Let's just agree here, to move my Official Blog Days to Tuesdays now. It's just a little easier for me to work on them on Mondays, rather than on Sunday. Sunday's are usually pretty hectic. So expect a Blog every Tuesday, and I'll make sure to put up Videos on those days. And then on Fridays, I'll put up a written blog after my last class just to tell you how my week went and all that good stuff.

Oh I went to Disneyland with Mom over break, it's only a 30 minute drive up the 5... Umm, that's Interstate-5 Freeway. In California we call Freeways "The (number)"- umm, yea. That's how we do it. Haha. Here's a Pic of ME!

And a preview of the car ride around San Diego. I'll be showing you most of North County, and then I'll drive down the coast on Highway 101, take you into the City, and end with a football game in Qualcomm. Yes I'm aware that the Jets beat my Chargers, and I'm very emotional and hurt about it. So let's not bring it up. Haha.

MARCO'S BACK!
